Randy and La Toya Jackson were among mourners delivered in a dozen or so cars to the Forest Lawn Memorial-Park in Los Angeles Monday night, accompanied by police.
Randy, a younger brother of the late superstar, was one of the first to show up at the cemetery, a little before 7 p.m. local time. Wearing a casual straw hat, La Toya Jackson arrived shortly after, showing no outward sign of emotion, according to eyewitnesses.
The visit, one night before Michael Jackson is to be remembered at a massive public tribute at Los Angeles’s Staples Center July 7, prompted speculation that a private funeral for the singer would be held at Forest Lawn earlier that morning.
In a series of Tweets, Jackson’s close friend Elizabeth Taylor insisted that, despite being invited to speak at the memorial, she felt uncomfortable taking part in what she described as the “public whooplah” surrounding the singer’s death.
