Miley Cyrus has at least one supporter this week, and he’s no stranger to controversy himself.
“Listen if it wasn’t ur cup of tea – all good but why is everyone spazzing? Hey – she’s doin something right. We all talkin,” Adam Lambert wrote Monday on Twitter.
He stopped short, though, of saying he actually enjoyed the 20-year-old pop star’s twerking routine with Robin Thicke.
“Hold up!” the former American Idol runner-up later wrote. “I didn’t actually state whether or not I liked @MileyCyrus performance. I merely said she was having fun and to cut her some slack.”
Lambert has been there himself, having been criticized for his own racy performance at the 2009 American Music Awards – telling PEOPLE later that he “just got caught up in the moment.”
One group that isn’t cutting MTV any slack is the Parents Television Council, which issued a statement condemning the network for the show’s overall racy content.
“MTV continues to sexually exploit young women by promoting acts that incorporate ‘twerking’ in a nude-colored bikini. How is this image of former child star Miley Cyrus appropriate for 14-year-olds?” the statement said in part.
