Now they have his and hers Emmys.
The Primetime Emmy Awards kept things modern Sunday night, awarding the first two trophies of the telecast, live from L.A.’s Nokia Theatre, to Modern Family stars Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell for their outstanding supporting roles on the ABC comedy as husband and wife Claire and Phil Dunphy.
“I don’t know what I’m going to talk about in therapy now,” Bowen joked as she accepted her award.
Burrell paid homage to his late father in his acceptance speech – also with a sense of humor.
“ ‘Why do you have to look like a harlot?’ ” he imagined his father wondering about his decision to go into acting, where he frequently has to wear makeup. “I would say, ‘Dad, just think of me as a very masculine lady.’ ” His ABC show won the first four awards Sunday night, and Modern Family won best comedy series for the second year in a row.
