When an aquarium closes for renovations, what does the staff do while the dolphins, otters and whales are away? They bring in some dogs.
According to a story in the Chicago Tribune, six unwanted shelter dogs were selected by the trainers at Shedd Aquarium in downtown Chicago to be trained by professionals who usually work with dolphins and other marine mammals. Now the dogs are appearing in a 20-minute program designed to illustrate how unwanted mutts can be loveable family pets with a little training.
The show, "Pet Training the Shedd Way," will continue at least until early summer 2009 when the aquarium reopens and the marine mammals return.
