An 18-month-old Russian Blue named Runner (short for: Platina Luna Blade Runner) was chosen Best of the Best at the annual Cat Fancier's Association-Iams Cat Championship, held Oct. 19 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
The cat's owners, Teresa Keiger and Brad Miller of Greenboro, N.C., were happy and surprised that their deep green-eyed, silver-furred feline beat out hundreds of other cats during two days of tough competition. This is the first time a cat of this particular breed has scooped up the prize.
Runner took home 400 pounds of Iams cat food, but, according to his owners, freeze-dried chicken is the kitty's ultimate treat.
The road to this championship hasn't been easy. "[It's a] huge amount of work, it's a lot of traveling, a lot of showing, competition every weekend," Miller told PEOPLE Pets. But it's all been worth it, "[I'm] ecstatic!" he added.
