If you saw an earless kitten available for adoption, would you take it home? For Melissa and her daughter Lexy Webb of Kingsville, Texas, the answer is absolutely YES. But not everyone would choose to adopt an imperfect kitten, and that's why the Webb's decided to write about their cat, Zoe.
The children's book "Zoe the Earless Kitten: The Adoption" is the first installment of the mother-daughter children's book series inspired by their real-life cat who was found in a dumpster, earless after someone hurt her. The kitty eventually recovered with no permanent damage to her hearing and was adopted by the Webbs.
"I could have picked a kitten that was healthy and had ears," 9-year-old Lexy says. "But kittens and puppies that are hurt need a home too."
It's a heart-warming story that the Webb's hope will shed some light on animal abuse, which is on the rise with over one thousand animals abused so far this year, according to statistics from Pet-Abuse.com.
The next installment of the book series is titled Zoe Meets the Family and concentrates on how Zoe deals with being "different" from the family's seven other family pets.
