A 50-pound pooch named Bentley somehow managed to switch gears and drive his owner's '92 Ford van into a coffee shop's window last week in Long Island, NY. The car was left on by the dog's owner, Bryan Maher, 60.
"I ran inside the coffee house to sign up for open-mike night, and I left my car running because it's cold outside and I didn't want my dog to freeze," says Maher, a musician, who adopted the boxer-Shar Pei mix (above) from the pound about a month ago. "The next thing I knew, I looked up to see my van coming at me in the window, with Bentley in the driver's seat grinning at me."
Thankfully, no one was hurt in the accident that caused minor damage to the van and left the shop's glass front window cracked. Bentley walked away unscathed as well. Mayer says he's learned his lesson: "Bentley will be getting a nice doggie coat for Christmas."
