The closest my five doggies ever come to fancy dining is when I bring home leftovers from Chirping Chicken. But now there's something called DogSpread–a high-end, couture peanut butter for pups! The folks who make it run the trendy Spread restaurant in San Diego and also sell jars of pricey nouveau comfort snacks for humans. Their new canine flavors–wild agave, lavender & bacon, and peppermint & carob–are rich in protein and nut oils and apparently give pooches shiner coats and bouncier steps.
Certainly the spreads make tails wag faster, if my five taste experts are any indication. Feasting on a few spoonfuls of the stuff–which is less chewy than regular peanut butter but perfect for camouflaging pills–my Maltese, Yorkie Terrier (above), Shih Tzu and two Chihuahuas couldn't slurp it up fast enough (though afterwards their yearning looks seemed to say, "What, no jelly?").
Still, at around $30 for two four-ounce jars, it's a true indulgence–heck, my fellas could divvy up a filet mignon for that much. But if you're inclined to pamper your pooch with a healthy treat that's clearly delicious–and smells good enough to want to dip a finger into–a little PB is a great way to let your little ones know you love 'em.
