When it comes to kids' birthday parties, ponies used to be the must-have animal guest, but in Los Angeles, a new trend is gaining speed: Puppy parties! For $200-$500, a company will come to a child's birthday event – with about 10 puppies in tow – and let guests interact with them, in the way they would at a petting zoo. Animals are generally around four months old, all of one small breed, and accompanied by their doggie moms for extra comfort.
Brandon Jones of Galaxy Entertainment, a California-based kids' party planning company, tells MomLogic he uses only homebred dogs at his company's Puppy Parties, to ensure they're coming from a safe environment. Luckily, Brandon has never experienced issues with biting, and assures moms that all puppies are vaccinated. A bonus? Most of his company's puppies are adopted by clients or guests by the age of six months.
