Sneak Peek! Ashlee & Pete's Dogs Get Ready for Baby
Ashley Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz had a checklist like any other expectant parents: the crib, the nursery and the name. But what were they going to do with their beloved Hemingway? The three-year old English bulldog had been in videos and on the road with the Fall Out Boy bassist -- even in their wedding -- but he was antagonistic with other animals. "Whenever I would see him around other dogs," said Simpson-Wentz, shortly before the birth of their son, "he would be aggressive. We're about to have a baby, so it's a big concern."
The couple tried getting Hemingway a playmate – Rigby, a five-month-old English bulldog puppy. But that didn't work. He was still acting out. "I find myself avoiding other dogs, I was avoid going to dog parks with them," explained Wentz. So, they turned to the Cesar Millan, the Dog Whisperer, who quickly whipped Hemingway into shape in time for the arrival of Bronx Mowgli on November 20, 2008.
"Dogs don't care how rich or famous you are; they only know who's the leader and who's the follower," said Millan. "My job was to teach Pete and Ashlee how to take the leadership role before their baby came into the picture." On Sunday, December 28 (8 p.m. ET/PT on the National Geographic Channel) audiences can see Millan take the couple through their training paces with Hemingway and Rigby.
First, Millan shows the couple how to master the walk – and properly hold the leash. Next, to their amazement, he demonstrates with ease how to walk with Hemingway and pass other dogs on the street – with no problems! Millan also works with the couple in their fitness room, teaching them how to properly use the treadmill with both dogs. Finally, Millan gives them a lesson on feeding, and how to claim the space around the food. Hemingway learns to control his impulses and the couple is amazed at how easy it is, once you show your pet who's boss.
