Why We Love Maltipoos

Maltipoos have become increasingly popular with celebrities who want a purse dog, but not a traditional breed. This designer hybrid comes in so many colors and coats, each maltipoo is an individual.

BREED: Maltipoo
DOG GROUP: Toy
WEIGHT: 5 – 15 pounds
LIFESPAN: 12-15 years
BREED: The Maltipoo, a Maltese and miniature poodle hybrid, is a smart, happy lapdog that doesn't trigger allergies. maltipoo enthusiast Barbara DeStefano, who uses her maltipoo, Lola, as a therapy dog, says she is amazed at the dog's intuition. "She picks the person having the worst day and comforts them," DeStefano says. When DeStefano packs for a trip, Lola always finds a way to slip a toy or treat in her suitcase.

BRED FOR:
Maltese dogs were bred to be companions to royalty or to treat sick people by gently sitting on their stomach. The poodle has worked for hundreds of years hunting and retrieving game from water. The breeds are combined for a compact, non-shedding companion.

KEEP IN MIND:
The downside of their not shedding is they have to be regularly groomed. And they tend to be yappers.

WHAT MALTIPOOS LIKE TO DO:
Maltipoos like a nice apartment where they can be close to their person. Like all dogs they need exercise, but you won't have to run yourself ragged.
