'Tween star Selena Gomez is doing her best to help abandoned and stray animals in Puerto Rico by participating in a charity auction. The singer-actress, who was recently in Puerto Rico to film a Wizards of Waverly Place movie, is involved in an online charity auction that will benefit Island Dog Inc., a group that helps animals in that region. She recently put a call out on her MySpace page asking people to participate and thanking pals like Taylor Swift, Corbin Bleu and Nicole Sullivan for joining the auction.

"I just wanted to let everyone know the new Charity Auction has launched. It runs until March 31st so be sure to check it out and get your parents permission to make a bid ..." she wrote on Myspace. "Go to www.islanddog.org to see all the different ways you can help the dogs and cats of Puerto Rico. I love you all and thank you."

Some of the auction items include an afternoon of shopping with Gomez and a backstage pass to a Forever the Sickest Kids concert. Showing just how much this cause means to her, Gomez (above) took some time out from filming in Puerto Rico earlier this month to help feed and medicate stray pups – we applaud her dedication!
