The whole idea of a piñata is that you destroy it to enjoy it. So at my house, the Puppy Piñata – a plush toy stuffed with beef jerky treats – lived up to its name. As soon as I opened the package, my Mastiff was salivating. Then 10 minutes later, it was over – the Puppy Piñata was torn in two. As I suspected, my dog did not gently work open the special pouch to get to the treat. Instead, he shredded his way through the toy fast and I had to help separate the treats from the stuffing. He undeniably loved the jerky and, a couple of hours later, he was still revisiting the same patch of grass to look for crumbs.
I'm sure dogs across the country are enjoying the treats just as much – the company just shipped out hundreds of Puppy Piñatas to animal shelters in honor of Cinco de Mayo. But at $9.99 for a regular and $14.99 for a large, the party didn't last long enough for me to put the Puppy Piñata on the regular shopping list. (They might last longer for less destructive dogs.) I'm certain, however, my dog wishes we could celebrate Cinco de Mayo every day.
