When an emergency operator in England received a call from Withington, Herefordshire, in which the caller shouted, "Come out or else, I'm warning you," police were immediately dispatched to the scene and expected to face a domestic violence dispute or perhaps a murder in progress.
But what they found was definitely less threatening. The BBC News reports that police were greeted by the owner of Bailey, a 14-month-old golden retriever, who explained that the call was accidentally placed by the rambunctious dog.
It all started when Bailey grabbed Jodie Halfpenny and her partner Jamie's cordless phone and ran off into their garden, they told BBC News. As Jamie attempted to get it back from the dog, who was chewing on it behind a shed, the canine somehow dialed 999 for the police.
Halfpenny said that Bailey thought his parents were playing a game with him and refused to come out from behind the shed. So, Jamie tried to coax the pup out with a few stern words, which the operator on the line was able to hear – along with some heavy breathing courtesy of Bailey.
The couple are still in disbelief over the chaos their dog caused. "Bailey chews everything he can just now, but we didn't think he could dial 999," Jodie said.
