Jesse James is known for his imposing appearances on shows like Celebrity Apprentice and Monster Garage. And the tattooed motorcycle man keeps that image alive in his new Spike show, Jesse James is a Dead Man (premiering May 31), which will feature him facing death-defying stunts in each episode. But off screen, the 40-year-old – who is married to actress Sandra Bullock – is a softie with six loyal pups. With names like Mr. T and Bubba, his three pit bulls, two Chihuahua rescues and a shepherd mix definitely make his canine brood a well-rounded one. Sadly, he tells PEOPLE Pets that tragedy recently struck his family, when he lost two dogs in a week: one to cancer, and one in a car accident.
