Funnyman Andy Samberg has a quirky relationship with cats. Using them – playfully and carefully! – as weapons in his psychedelic "Laser Cats" skits on Saturday Night Live, the actor also utilized the popular "Keyboard Cat" viral video to kick off (and close) the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night. So is he a bona fide cat person, or a bigger fan of dogs? "Neither," he tells PEOPLE. "But if I had to choose, I'd probably go with cat, although they both smell bad, to be honest. When you're someone like me, who's blessed in the beak department, odor is very important in your life."
The actor grew up with a pup named Mel, whom Samberg, 30, describes as mellow. "I did love him ... he would just kind of trot around sidewise and just sleep a lot. That's my ideal dog." Does he see another pet in his future? Samberg didn't say, but after calling cats "kind of stinky," he shared, "A super-excited dog that's slobbery and jumping all over you – that's never been my thing."
