While undergoing treatment for exhaustion, Susan Boyle is missing her faithful companion: her cat, Pebbles.

Her brother, Gerry Boyle, tells PEOPLE that he spoke to his sister–the Britain's Got Talent runner-up–on Monday and she was much improved since Sunday, when she entered the hospital. "She's dying to come up to Scotland and sit down and have a wee bit of normality back in her life. She's keen to pursue her career as well. And she misses Pebbles the cat," he says. "She's on the mend, she'll be fine."

Doctors examined Boyle, 48, a day after her disappointment on Saturday, when she came in second to the dance troupe Diversity on the TV talent show that launched her. She was then taken to–and remains in–the London Priory Hospital.

And how has Pebbles coped with his mom's fame? After Boyle's soaring rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" before judge Simon Cowell and millions of would-be fans in April, she became an overnight sensation. At the time, she was living alone with the cat in Blackburn, Scotland, but Pebbles didn't seem to notice a change. Boyle told the West Lothian Courier of Pebbles' reaction: "The usual cat way, wanting to be pet."
