Scooter, a 6-month-old Maltese who lives in New Zealand, is among the world's smallest "sleeve" dogs, according to the Associated Press. A wee 3.2 inches tall, he measures just over 8 inches from nose to tail.
Scooter's owner Cheryl McKnight told New Zealand's Gisborne Herald that the little guy came from a litter of three puppies and stopped growing at just 2 months old. "He was the same size as the other two pups when they were born but as they grew, he didn't," she said. "After about five or six weeks he was already smaller than the other ones. He just never grew."
While being tiny has its advantages, like a possible world record, it also has its drawbacks. "I can't take him for a walk or put a leash on him," says McKnight. But, she says, for the most part Scooter "does everything a normal dog does."
According to Guinness's Web site, an American Chihuahua named Heaven Sent Brandy still holds the title for smallest living dog – measuring just 6 inches from nose to tail.
