John Mayer donated $25,000 to two L.A. pet rescue groups after challenging TMZ's founder Harvey Levin to find his mug shot, taken in 2001, after an arrest for driving with a suspended license. TMZ produced the mug shot on Thursday and the singer gave $12,500 to Pet Orphans of Southern California and Ace of Hearts. He posted images of the checks on Twitter as "proof" and wrote: "Well done, TMZ. But the real winners today are the puppies."–L.A. Times Unleashed

The space shuttle Discovery, which is due to launch on Tuesday, is transporting mice to space for a bone-loss experiment. Eight mice, including four that were genetically enhanced with a bone-building gene, are part of a study that aims to find out why astronauts' bones break down in space.–Reuters

Happy reunion: The Brown family of Murfreesboro, Tenn., is happy to be reunited with one of two pooches that were stolen while they were visiting a friend's home last week. Their luck turned when Frank Burks, who had recently purchased a dog for his daughter, read about the theft online, realized his pup was one of the dogs in question and contacted the Brown family right away. The search is still on for the second pooch.–Tennessean.com
