How much wool can one buy for 231,000? One Scottish farmer is hoping for a limitless supply – and a high-quality output, at that! According to the U.K.'s Mirror, sheep farmer Jimmy Douglas of Aberdeenshire, Scotland, paid 231,000 (about $376,000) to fellow Scottish farmer Graham Morrison at an auction last week for a 6-month-old Texel ram named "Deveronvale Perfection." Dubbed the "world's most expensive sheep," Deveronvale is said to be the "best lamb" Morrison ever bred with – though he admits the price he earned "surpassed [his] wildest dreams."
Six years ago, the U.K.'s previous most expensive sheep was purchased for 128,000 ($208,000). Named Tophill Joe, he passed away in early August after fathering lambs worth more than 1 million British pounds. It's expected that Deveronvale's new owner Douglas, who marveled at the animal's "great body and strong loin," will try to profit similarly off his prized sheep.
