Update: Adoptable Dog Sophia Finds a Forever Home!
"I'd just lost my own dog, and a neighbor who works with Pet Rescue mentioned Sophia," Cerami tells PEOPLEPets.com. "I went to go see her on Sept. 26, and I decided to take her right then and there." Cerami filled out the necessary paperwork, and two days later, Sophia was hers. "We just fell in love."
Cerami, who lives alone, enjoys the company – as long as it's just one pup at a time! "I had one Rottweiler for 12 years, and then another for 10," she explains. "Then I had a homeless cocker spaniel for three years, who I lost about a month ago. And now, there's Sophia. She's definitely filled that void in my life. And she's so happy."
Sophia, who's "always smiling," enjoys walks through Miami and sleeping in her bed. "She's the only dog that I've seen who sleeps in her bed instead of on the floor," Cerami says, laughing. "And she has this cute habit of crossing her paws in front of her when she sits down. I could spot her in a lineup of a million dogs because of that little characteristic."
The adoption came at a perfect time: It's American Humane's Adopt-A-Dog Month! "There are so many wonderful dogs that need homes, so why go buy a purebred?" says Cerami. "Sophia is an extraordinary dog. For me, it's worked out perfectly."
