Best Kisser in Brooklyn? Nibbler the Dog!
"For that category, we were really looking for the dog that kissed with the most reckless abandon," says event coordinator Regan Jaye Fishman, who judged the competition with veterinarians and elementary school teachers.
"Yes, it was sloppy, but it wasn't sloppy enough," Cubby's proud mama Erika Searl tells PEOPLEPets.com. "They said that she was too dignified in her kissing. She definitely kissed everyone, but was too polite – I guess I raised her right."
The West Highland terrier mix may have to deal with her sloppy seconds in the kiss category, but she took the top prize in the Best Owner-Dog Look-alike division.
"You know the saying – people start looking like their pets, and pets start looking like people when they live together," Searl says. She and Cubby wore matching sweaters, and the pooch even sported a wig to match her mom.
At Sunday's contest, which was a fund-raiser for the Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition (BARC), rescued mutts and pedigrees stood paw-to-paw and competed for such prestigious titles like Best Ears and Least Useful Pet Trick.
The winners received a free portrait, a doggie bath and a delicious pupcake, and all who entered received honorable mention ribbons and a free doggie bag with treats and toys, but for Cubby, the best prizes were the honors themselves.
"She was so ecstatic and proud to win and to represent the shelter dogs was great," Searl says. "I really wanted her to win. She shined and deserves all the credit."
