There's a new love in Teri Hatcher's life – but he's one of several that she's juggling!
"I have an American bulldog that's my most recent rescue: Jack, also known as my boyfriend," the Desperate Housewives star told PEOPLE at the Humane Society's Genesis Awards on Saturday.
Jack just joined Hatcher's already impressive menagerie of pets at home (she admits she's been a serial animal rescuer since the seventh grade), and the bulldog brings Teri's dog tally to four. "I have the second-most-recent rescue – they say she might be a maltipoo. Her name is Coco, like Chanel!" Hatcher says. "And then I have two Cavalier King Charles [spaniels], named Pip and Puffs."
But it's not just a dog's life at Hatcher's house – she and daughter Emerson Rose are feline-friendly, too. "I have three cats, one of whom was rescued on the set of Desperate Housewives when we were shooting in Toluca Lake on Friday the 13th." The little black kitten defied the bad luck omens and was adopted with an appropriate new name. "We named him Friday!"
One of Hatcher's pets has even followed her footsteps into showbiz. "One of my cats, Socks, has been on Letterman. She did the Stupid Pet Trick [segment]," she says of a 2008 visit to The Late Show with David Letterman.
"Way before I was an actress, way before I was famous, I wanted to be on Stupid Pet Tricks. [I thought,] 'If I could only get an animal that would do something stupid and significant!' " she remembers. "And then when I rescued this cat, we realized that she would fetch water bottle caps. So you throw the water bottle cap, she runs and gets it and brings it back. And I'd never heard of a cat that fetches before, so we filmed it and we put it on David Letterman!"
She admits she probably won't add to her already impressive brood any time soon. "I think I'm legally at my limit, honestly," Hatcher laughs. "I think I'll be arrested if I get any more animals."
