Venus Williams considers shopping one of her Achilles heels. But the tennis star's biggest weakness might be the soft spot she has for her 3-year-old Havanese, Harold "Harry" Reginald.
"You're out there on your own and you need a friend who's there for you – wins, losses – and who really cares for you," she said in a U.S. Open promotional clip
. "I've recently found that someone, and that's Harold."
Since getting Harold "as an impulse buy" in 2007, Williams has taken him along with her on tour whenever possible, toting him along with her gear.
He was with her backstage at the Wendy Williams Show
, where she promoted her collaboration with Tide plus Febreze Freshness Sport
. As Mommy did her work and talked to the press, Harold sat quietly in his designer carrier.
Harold doesn't always travel with Williams, though, and she often posts messages on her Twitter page
talking about how much she misses him when they aren't together. And the petite pooch definitely won't be riding along with Williams during her bike workouts anymore.
The tennis star recently starting cycling as an alternative fitness routine, and after having a scary accident that she describes as one she was lucky to "come out of," her first thought was that she needed to stop pedaling around with Harold. "I used to ride him in the basket, but I'll never ride him in the basket again – not after that incident," she tells PEOPLEPets.com. "He would've been a goner, buddy!"
So while Mom is out burning calories on her bike (with her helmet on), Harold will just have to settle for playing with his housemates and "cousins," sister Serena Williams's
two dogs, a Maltese and a Jack Russell terrier. Luckily, Harold has some love to spare for the whole family!See more of the Williams family pooches on PEOPLEPets.com:Serena Williams & Jackie: Ready For Some Football!
