Gayle King's beloved cocker spaniel Spencer passed away in January, and more than six months later the dog lover is still torn over the idea of getting a new canine to fill the void.
"I'm still struggling with the question of whether to get another dog [or] not get another dog," she told PEOPLEPets.com at the Ovarian Cancer Research benefit in Bridgehampton, N.Y., on Saturday. "I'm not sure because it's very painful, you know, when you've had a dog that long."
It's a discussion she has no doubt had with her BFF, Oprah Winfrey, who is a dog lover and has lost many beloved canine pals over the years. Most recently, Winfrey parted with a puppy named Ivan who died suddenly of the parvovirus shortly after the TV queen adopted him in early 2009.
"He was certainly a big part of the family," King says of Spencer. "I'm being very serious, I really, really love dogs, and so does my daughter. So I'm still struggling about whether to replace him or not. And right now, I've done nothing."
