When we were presented with a bag of peanut butter banana Love Bites from The Flabby Labby Dog Company, we had just the canine in mind: A small, but sturdy maltipoo with a sweet spot for peanut butter snacks. But when he suddenly came down with a stomach bug (the poor thing couldn't keep anything down) we took matters into our own hands – human hands!
Seeing as all Flabby Labby cookies ($9 for 6 oz.) are handmade, organic and preservative free, it wasn't very difficult to convince our 6-ft. 4-inch., 195-lb. tester to take a nibble. After tentatively sniffing the heart-shaped treat, our two-legged male quickly chewed and swallowed not one, but two Love Bites. His review? "More of a cracker or a biscuit than a cookie." He said he could taste the banana flavor, but did not "feel a peanut butter connection."
If you find yourself pinching your nose at sausage-flavored treats, give your nostrils – and conscience – a break and reward your pooch with a feel-good snack. When our canine tester was back on his feet again, we gave him a nibble. Seeing as this was the first non-prescription dog food he ate post-illness, we were nervous that there might be an adverse reaction. The verdict? Flabby Labby treats are suitable for even the most sensitive tummies!
In addition to the tasty recipes, Flabby Labby gives back 15 percent of its proceeds to shelters in Colorado. If you are in the Aspen or Basalt region, you can buy the treats at a local retailer. All other all-natural dog cookie enthusiasts may order online at www.flabbylabbycookies.com. Bone appétit!
