Woe is the owner of a picky pooch. A home filled with discarded toys? Yup. Cans of food that were greeted with an upturned nose? Yup. Plenty of dog beds that lay fallow while the dog naps on the floor? Yup. So I approached my particular pug Sadie with some trepidation with her newest bed, West Paw Design's Eco Drop.
Huge and fluffy, the bed ($84) is a mound of IntelliLoft® fleece-like material made from recycled soda bottles. And to my great relief, Sadie loved it! It took her a second to figure out how exactly to climb on to the large beanbag shape (Note: She's 20 lbs. and I ordered a medium for her). She happily switched from her old, very ratty (and quite stinky!) bed into this one. And while I was worried that the fleece might feel too hot for her in these dog days of summer, she seemed to stay as cool as a pug can.
But is a bed made of recycled bottles necessarily safe for my pooch to rest her head on? West Paw says it's non-toxic and certified safe by the Swedish company Oko-Tex who test textile products for harmful substances like phthalates (found in certain plastics) and pesticides. So I'm happy that it's safe for Sadie and for our planet, too.
Eco Drop Beds are made in the U.S.A and available at WestPawDesign.com.
