Our resident Maltipoo has slept on everything from a bespoke men's dress shirt to a teetering stack of ornamental pillows. He does not discriminate when it comes to sleeping accommodations as long as there is a reasonably soft place for him to rest his pampered paws. So when we brought him a Microdry Memory Foam Pet Mat – made of an impossibly soft fabric – we thought we had found a Maltipoo mecca.
Machine washable and lightweight, the Microdry mat ($24.99-$34.99 and available in two colors) is made of thin memory foam intended to keep your pup warm and dry. A brilliant update to antiquated and lumpy bean-filled sacks, a Microdry mat rolls up for easy travel and storage. And though it is so soft you want to bury your head in it, the mat is aesthetically pleasing and completely functional.
All of its positive characteristics aside, however, it didn't do much for our usually unfussy sleeper. There was no obvious reason as to why our tester didn't take to the Microdry pad, but every time we relocated his burly body atop the inviting mat, he slinked off and opted for a place on the couch instead. We even went so far as to replace the usual blanket in his crate with the pliable bone-shaped mat. Alas, there was no marked increase in the number of visits to his canine condo.
Perhaps there were independent variables affecting our experiment, but one thing seems certain: You can drag your dog to a Microdry Memory Foam mat, but you can't make him snuggle. To find more information about the mats or to purchase one for yourself or a friend, visit www.bedbathandbeyond.com.
