New Resort Is a Disney World for Pets
But Boom Boom is not sitting home, waiting for his family to come back and relieve him from his solitude. On the contrary, Boom Boom is having a grand time playing with toys in his Kitty City suite at the brand new Best Friends Pet Care resort for pets – right inside of Walt Disney World!
The 50,000-sq.-ft. facility, which opened today, not only accommodates Boom Boom's needs, but also can host up to 300 pets at a time, including dogs, ferrets, rabbits and guinea pigs. In addition to the air-conditioned and protected Kitty City, the resort has a water park, a 25,000-sq.-ft. dog park that has a walking trail through a wooded area, pet luxury suites and vacation villas.
Today's grand opening ceremony featured an appearance by Pluto, who helped escort the guests to the dog park "for its christening, if you will." Deb Bennetts, a spokesperson for Best Friends Pet Care, tells PEOPLEPets.com that Pluto's presence barely fazed the other pooches, who "were more interested in the dog park!"
The resort is the first of its kind and the first time that Walt Disney World has had these services for animals. For more than 30 years, the park had basic cage boarding facilities for guests traveling with their pets. Two years ago, Best Friends Pet Care took over those facilities and began hearing from customers about their wants and needs.
"There was clearly demand for more spacious accommodations and more services," Bennetts says. "People who come to Disney World and bring their pet with them want to be able to see and spend time with their pet while they're here."
There are a range of pricing options available at Best Friends Pet resort. Rooms start at $37 a night for a standard two-room suite and go up to $76 a night for a luxury suite with a raised bed, flat-panel TV and webcam services.
