Adopt Me! Honey is One Super-Sweet Dog
Honey, who is about 8 years old, came to the Bideawee rescue group through a New York City municipal shelter after she was picked up on the streets. "When Bideawee first met Honey, she was shaking, terrified and alone, and in so much agony," shelter representative Gaye Torrance tells PEOPLEPets.com. The 9-lb. pup was suffering from a painful growth on her rear end as well as severe dental disease, but Bideawee staffers were able to step in and help.
"She seems grateful for being saved and healed," Torrance says. "She loves to sit for hours on a warm lap, content to quietly and sweetly enjoy your company." Staffers think she used to be someone's pet, but eventually suffered some neglect before being abandoned on the streets. She still has a "very good temperament," and is described as "loving and happy." Honey is housebroken, but because of her size and vulnerability, she should live in an adults-only home.
Bideawee (which means "stay awhile," in Scottish) is one of the country's oldest animal welfare and pet adoption organizations. Founded in 1903 by Flora Kibbe, Bideawee has been providing shelter, care and compassion to homeless animals for more than 100 years, helping them find forever homes in New York City and Long Island.
The organization relies solely on donations to continue rescue operations, so visit its website to learn how you can help.
