Adopt Me! Oprah's Vet Endorses Dog Della

For every pet living with a happy family, there is an animal in a shelter waiting to find a loving home. Today, we'd like you to meet Della, an extra-friendly Chihuahua we met last month at the Humane Society of New York.

Della, now 2 years old, was surrendered by her owners, though through no fault of her own. The loving Chihuahua – who can't stop kissing! – is happy, healthy and housebroken.

We recently had the chance to meet her in our PEOPLEPets.com studios, and Oprah Winfrey's veterinarian, Dr. Shelly Rubin, who happened to be on hand, was nice enough to evaluate the pooch for us. "She's so well-adapted, a wonderful dog," Dr. Rubin says in the clip above. "Sometimes people think of [Chihuahuas] as biters and barkers, [but] this dog has obviously had some great training. She would make a wonderful animal for somebody's home." And we wholeheartedly agree.

Founded in 1904, the Humane Society of New York helps more than 34,000 dogs and cats annually through its adoption and healthcare programs. The organization not only helps pets in need, but works to spay and neuter all the city's dogs and cats through free and low-cost clinics, and outdoor cat spay/neuter campaigns. The Upper East Side facility has a rooftop dog run, and its volunteers help socialize and care for its animals.

The organization relies heavily on donations to continue its rescue operations, so visit its website to learn how you can help.
