Every year of his life, Hoover Heartbreaker has had a stocking for Christmas.
For some reason, when he was 3, Hoover decided he would investigate what was in his goodie bag – before he had been given permission to do so.
"He decided that he was going to climb up on the couch and check out what was in his stocking," says owner Annette Nelson. "My husband caught him being snoopy. Plus, he's not actually supposed to be on the couch."
Hoover would find out later that his paw print-covered stocking was filled with treats, as it always is, and since that year, the now 5-year-old English springer spaniel has waited patiently for the big day before he heads for his Christmas prize.
His other name, Heartbreaker, comes from the heart-shaped markings he has along his body.
"He has a heart on either side of him, and on his butt, he has an upside-down heart," Nelson says. "He's covered in hearts."
Fittingly, Hoover has a sweet personality and is a social butterfly who lets his "little sister," a miniature dachshund, walk all over him – literally.
"She's 9 lbs., and he's 45 lbs., but he lets her bully him," Nelson says. "He's a very good dog. He's like another son."
