Life on the road with country duo Steel Magnolia can be overwhelmingly macho. There's the crew of nine men, for one, who work with bandmates Meghan Linsey and Joshua Scott Jones. But this year, a new little lady joined the group: Linsey's recently adopted Cavalier King Charles spaniel, Penny. She's the third Cavalier King Charles spaniel to hop on the country bandwagon; there's also Julianne Hough's dog Lexi, and Chuck Wicks's troublemaker, Cooper.
"Penny loves the bus," Linsey tells PEOPLEPets.com. "At first she was scared – like I was – but she's adjusting to life on the road with nine guys."
The pup's trepidation is understandable given her background. Linsey adopted Penny three months ago from a Tennessee animal rescue. Penny had been a breeding dog for five years, but "she's got a good life now," Linsey says.
That life includes traveling around the country promoting Steel Magnolia's new self-titled album, hanging out on the tour bus – and even stopping by to visit the PEOPLEPets.com offices. It's a far cry from Penny's former life in a cage. She rarely walked and lost a toe or two to some unfriendly chicken wire. These days, Penny is walking much better, and her weight is up to a healthy 13 lbs.
Having spent so many years breeding – she had up to 10 litters of puppies – it took Penny a little bit of time to adjust to her new life. It's nothing a little love couldn't change. Linsey says Penny is "just now coming out of her shell."
