Wandering Dog Gets Head Stuck in Pot
Pacific Coast News
Taking a cue from Winnie the Pooh, one roaming pit bull got into a bit of a jam last week.

The 1-year-old pooch from California had strayed from his house and gotten his head stuck inside of a canister from a smudge pot, which burns oil to protect trees from frost. Luckily, he was discovered by Riverside County Animal Services officer Amy Farrell, who recruited another officer to help the dog out of his predicament. Lt. John Stephens drove to his home and picked up a pair of tin snips, and the two officers were able to cut the canister apart to free the dog, his head smudged with soot from the pot. Officer Farrell, who suspected the pooch got stuck while chasing after something, nicknamed him Smokey.

When Smokey's story became news, his owner Daniel Carlson was able to find his dog, whose name is actually Blue, again at the shelter. They were both very happy to see each other, according to Officer Farrell. Blue "was jumping on [Carlson] and wanted to be pet," she said.
