What would you do to keep your dog from being sick? For Ali Niroomand, whose golden retriever Louis reacted terribly to every variety of commercial food he tried, the answer was anything. His pup's health could merit even a total lifestyle overhaul, and eventually, it did.
Niroomand tried dry and wet foods, premium and organic styles, and "Louis was always getting sick or refusing to eat his food." After so many regular trips to the vet, Niroomand grew exasperated.
"I was getting really upset, but then I remembered that my mom would cook for my dog when I was a kid in Paris," he tells PEOPLEPets.com. "I made fun of her when I was growing up, but I started cooking for Louis, just to see."
With a background in the restaurant industry, cooking for Louis came easily, and the changes in his dog did as well. Gone were the vomiting, the diarrhea, the hospital bills, even the stinky breath. The shift was so dramatic that it led Niroomand to start DooD, a pet food delivery service. Currently available in New York City and Los Angeles, DooD offers freshly-prepared, all-natural, human-grade meals for dogs delivered weekly, with options starting at around $15 per week. The service, while pricey, is hard to resist.
There are two meal options, lean turkey and beef, and both are cooked with brown rice, peas and other vegetables that are undoubtedly the real thing (and, to be honest, good enough for humans not to just eat, but to enjoy too). Our official tester, a Maltese who has no problem with any kind of food, was told through a very friendly letter from Louis exactly what her recommended caloric intake is (there's even a handy calculator on DooD's website that you can try yourself). She very much enjoyed both the turkey and beef meals and didn't experience any side effects apart from satisfaction.
