First, there was Tillman the skateboarding bulldog, then Britain's dog on four wheels, Bodhi. If those two characters aren't enough to inspire your dog to ride around town, don't fret. Snatch up one of Meg Grogan's repurposed skateboard feeders and your pooch will feel like the raddest four-legged friend in the skate park – no adrenaline rush necessary.
In 2009, Grogan embarked on making a feeder for her large black lab, Tank the Destroyer, Esq., and an old child's table was the perfect height. After receiving Tank's seal of approval, she thought about what else she could use to make feeders, and started daydreaming of using skateboard decks in future designs.
"I don't skateboard. I tried it a couple of times and I'm terrible", Grogan tells PEOPLEPets.com. But she always loved their designs and they were the perfect width to cut holes for food and water bowls.
A former Marine, Grogan started a program called Skate It Forward in her home state of North Carolina. Through Skate It Forward, she donates skateboards to local students who maintain good grades. Students exchange their old skateboards some of which eventually become feeders in Grogan's shop.
Using both used and new skateboard decks in her feeders, Grogan is beginning to paint her own custom designs. Looking for something specific, just send her a message, she'll be happy to customize a look for your pooch.
