Home. Some cats and dogs never have one to call their own. We'd like to help change that by introducing you to an extraordinary homeless pet every week. Today, we'd like you to meet Annie, a beautiful longhaired feline who lost her loving home when her elderly owner passed away.
Life as Annie knew it changed drastically in February when she was given up by a relative to the Homeless Animal Rescue Team of Maine (H.A.R.T). Not a fan of the other cats who roam freely at the rescue, Annie spends most of her days curled up in her cage, frightened, but the team there is making strides to get her out of her shell.
"Annie is very shy. She needs a special home with someone who can be patient with her," says Teresa Blanchard, intake coordinator and day manager at H.A.R.T. "She's on Prozac right now to help her relax."
At approximately 8 years old, Annie is definitely more of an observer – she watches the other felines from her cage, and her toys are hardly ever played with. She needs to learn to trust again, so she'd be perfect for a cat lover who has the time to work with her at a slow pace.
If introverted Annie sounds like the perfect match for you, call or email H.A.R.T. at 207-829-4116 or info@hartofme.com. Established in 1997, H.A.R.T. is a shelter and adoption center for cats in Cumberland, Maine. They provide refuge, comfort, and medical attention to cats like Annie who have been surrendered, abandoned, injured, or abused.
