Alyssa Milano and her husband are eagerly awaiting the arrival of their first child, a son
, but they aren't the only ones getting ready for baby. The actress says her dogs are anticipating the new bundle, too.
"We know that they know already, especially my Australian shepherds, because they kind of sniff at my belly obsessively," Milano told PEOPLEPets.com at a private dinner in Washington to honor The Creative Coalition.
The actress has been posting photos
for her fans online, showing a few of her pets – she has two Australian Shepherds, two Chihuahuas and a German Shepherd named Dodger, Diesel, Lucy, Gibson and Quixie, plus 10 horses – taking turns getting some rest with the baby. But, there's lots of work to be done in preparation for the due day.
"We have everyone in training right now, and we're going to start working with an empty carriage because I walk my dogs every day by myself," she said. "I want to be able to do that and the baby at the same time."
Once Milano does welcome her little one into the world, she wants her pups to be one of the first to know – and to get used to the idea of a new family member in the house. "Everyone keeps telling me to make sure after I give birth to get that [first] blanket that they wrap the baby in and to have someone bring it home before we get there so the dogs can smell it."
The soon-to-be mom is already a mom of sorts – a godmother, that is, to Scooby-Roo
, a two-legged rescue dog who was able to get a new set of wheels thanks to Milano.
"I'm his fairy godmother – his fairy dogmother," Milano said. "We get updates probably once a month and his rehab is going really well, and he's adjusting to his wheels."
