Jimmie Johnson, NASCAR’s best driver, stands out on the track, and he also stands out at home.

“I’m surrounded by girls,” Johnson told PEOPLE at the July 13 ESPY Awards. “Both [of my] dogs are girls, and there’s my daughter and my wife. I’m so outnumbered, it’s ridiculous.”

It certainly doesn’t help that his Havanese Roxie and shih tzu Maya are both very girlie. “They’re not the manliest of dogs,” he said, laughing.

Still, Johnson insisted that he doesn’t get teased for owning such petite pets. “Actually, [all the NASCAR drivers] have small dogs, really. I think it’s because they travel so well and we’re always on the road,” he said. “Big dogs are kind of few and far in our garage.”
