The last time Travis Clark went on tour with his band We the Kings, he left behind his dog Elvis – and his expensive new couches. But when the tour was over, things didn’t look exactly as Clark had left them.
“I came home and all of these new leather couches that I bought were totally torn apart. Like, ripped to shreds,” he told PEOPLE after a recent We the Kings show at N.Y.C.’s Gramercy Theatre.
After losing several thousands of dollars worth of couch, the 26-year-old rocker did the only thing he could. He renamed his dog.
“He was sitting there and looking so cute, I literally couldn’t punish him at all,” Clark said. “I decided to commemorate the moment by changing his last name from Clark to Scissorhands. Couches are nothing. You can always buy new couches. But when you see that look on his face, it’s priceless.”
When he isn’t on tour, Clark spends time on the water, often paddleboarding with Elvis Scissorhands, who sits on the front and “just hangs 10 the whole time.”
“He’s honestly the one thing that will never let me down,” Clark said. “I’ve had friends and relationships and family where every once in a while, you just get bummed out. He’s never once bummed me out. He’s more than a dog. He’s a best friend. He’s like a son to me.”
