Due to the effects of climate change and global warming, all different kinds of species, from plants to animals, are migrating to find cooler temperatures. Scientists have found that species have moved higher uphill and to higher latitudes at the rate of 10 miles per decade. –Washington Post

Obese lab mice given a drug called SRT-1720 were found to live longer lives than obese mice who didn't receive the drug. SRT-1720 was able to reduce the fat in the mice's livers, among other positive health effects. –New York Times

A Florida couple who ran a cat sanctuary had 700 cats seized from the property, and more than 70 of them had to be euthanized because they were too ill. The couple has since been arrested on 47 counts of animal cruelty. –CSMonitor.com



The capybara who wandered through a California wastewater treatment plant and garnered headlines along the way has been left alone and allowed to roam by state officials. Other humans have even been warned not to hunt the animal. –Opinion L.A.

An 18-lb. lobster's life was spared after a seafood company decided getting eaten would be an unfortunate end to the 75-year-old crustacean's life. The New York Aquarium has since provided the lobster with housing, and he is already radiating "a certain charisma." –New York Daily News
