A parasite called Toxoplasma gondii inhabits cats, and it helps make kitties attractive to rats, their natural prey. New research shows that while rats were typically terrified of cat urine, they were not fearful when the urine contained the parasite. –TIME

A Chicago-based veterinary association runs Wings, a support group that helps people cope with the loss of a pet and eventually move to adopt a new one. Wings is one of a number of similar support groups in the area. –Chicago Tribune
