The actor, 47, just returned from a two-week-long trip to South Africa and Zambia, where he was able to check a few items off his bucket list – including cage diving with sharks!

Underwood traveled first to Cape Town, his favorite city in the world. It's a significant place for the actor: He married his wife there; it's the setting of his novel, From Cape Town, with Love; and he had always wanted to take his whole family, including his three children, to the South African city.
While there, Underwood enjoyed a trip to meet lions in the wild. He describes it as a once-in-a-lifetime experience and an unforgettable one for his entire family. Accompanied by rangers, the group walked for an hour with 1-year-old lion cubs, taking the animals to their watering hole. The Underwoods then spent an hour with the cubs, which the actor described as "soft and irresistible," and Underwood had to remind himself constantly that they were wild animals.

Next, the family traveled to Zambia, where they went on an elephant safari. The "extraordinary creatures" moved silently through the brush in an area overlooking Victoria Falls, but Underwood got even closer – and fed the large creatures by hand.
