Hairy insects known as crazy ants are invading the U.S. Gulf coast, taking over homes in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida. Controlling populations is especially difficult because once a crazy ant is killed, more follow. –AP

Rock band The Flaming Lips has recorded a new six-hour song called "Found a Star on the Ground," possibly the longest single piece of music ever recorded, to benefit homeless animals in Oklahoma City.
