Noah's Ark didn't have as many hamsters as Dr. Oz now does.
Dr. Mehmet Oz and his wife Lisa have a growing brood that includes cats, dogs, children, and presently, 11 hamsters – and they're looking to lighten the load.
After an unexpectedly large delivery of hamsters recently, the couple has been looking for new homes for the critters. They even asked PEOPLE on their way into An Evening with Ralph Lauren, an event hosted by Oprah Winfrey
at New York's Lincoln Center: "We have nine baby hamsters – would you like one?"
"All new," Lisa added. "All nine came at once."
"Hamsters do that sometimes," Dr. Oz said. "And, you know what? They usually eat their own [young], but the kids have been nurturing these little things. They're beautiful, and they're about this big," he said, placing his thumb and forefinger in close proximity. "I'm not exaggerating."
And while the baby hamsters were adorable, they couldn't stay at Chez Oz.
"We can't keep 11 hamsters," Mrs. Oz said. "We have the parents, too."
"We're going to start giving them to kids in our son's class," said Dr. Oz. "We're searching."
