It's Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month, and we'll be introducing you to extraordinary canines who need homes throughout October. Today, we'd like you to meet Tyke, an affectionate pit bull terrier who was given up by his previous owners.
Tyke and his littermate, Q, made their way to the Adopt-A-Dog Shelter in Armonk, N.Y., over two years ago. Sadly, his sibling passed on before the pair could find their forever home, but Tyke hasn't given up hope.
The energetic 7-year-old pooch adores people, belly rubs, and is a fine "example of the breed," says Adopt-A-Dog president Allyson Halm. "He's just a gentle giant, easy-going and loves attention."
When you meet Tyke, he'll likely have his most prized possession hanging out of his mouth. "He loves parading around with his Jolly ball," she says. "He likes to go everywhere with it, and he likes to destroy them."
Unsure of cats and other dogs, Tyke would be best in a home where he's the only pet to fuss over. He'd be right at home with a mature, active couple who have the time to take him on long walks – and would occasionally permit the 85-lb. dog to sleep in their bed! Watch the video below to see Tyke in action.
