When police deputies arrived at Terry Thompson's property in Zanesville, Ohio, they were faced with charging lions and bears, which left them no time and no other choice but to shoot and kill the animals. –AP

An English bulldog named Jagger was dognapped last month by captors who demanded a ransom and prescription drugs from the dog's owner, who is partially paralyzed. The dog's remains have since been found dumped on the side of a road and two male suspects have been apprehended. –ABC News
