November is Adopt-A-Senior-Pet Month, and each week, we’ll be introducing you to cats and dogs who need a place to live out their golden years. Today, we’d like you to meet Pierre, a lively 7-year-old toy poodle mix who will bring some pep to his new owner’s step.
Pierre enjoys wearing the occasional faux diamond, but make no mistake – he is a boy. “Oh, everyone thinks he’s a cute little girl,” says DJ Cogswell, an adoption counselor for the Nevada SPCA. “But he’s very comfortable in his sexuality.”
The senior pooch, who came to the Las Vegas shelter as a stray, doesn’t act his age either. “He has a lot of energy, a lot of pep,” he says. “He’s a busybody.”
Pierre was the perfect dog for Cogswell to take along to the McDonald Highland’s Run Through the Hills 5k event on Nov. 6, which benefitted the shelter. He mingled with people and enjoyed strutting his stuff, even though he couldn’t quite finish the entire race.
“He got a little worn out and he was like, ‘Carry me,’” Cogswell says, laughing. “He kind of curled up and he sat down while we were walking.”
Weighing between 15 and 20 lbs., “comical” Pierre would be a great companion for anyone looking for a loving, affectionate family pet. “He has so much energy, but at the same time he just wants to be with someone,” Cogswell says. “He was comfortable just being in my arms.”
If you think this flamboyant fellow would be a fun addition to your family, contact the Nevada SPCA (702)873-SPCA.
