Home. Some cats and dogs never have one to call their own. We'd like to help change that by introducing you to an extraordinary homeless pet every week. Today, we'd like you to meet Roscoe, a clumsy canine with a big heart.
Named for the dim-witted sheriff from The Dukes of Hazzard, this 1-year-old pooch succeeds at making everyone at York Adopt-a-Pet in York, Neb., laugh.
"He's got a great personality," says shelter manager Kim Hart. "He's a big old dopey dog. He's wonderful. He's so energetic and so big – he's a big dog to handle."
Whoever adopts this chocolate Lab-husky mix needs to be ready for all 85 lbs. of him – preferably with a fenced-in yard. Known for doing "cartwheels" in his kennel, Roscoe would be perfect for an athletic person who's looking for a jogging companion. Roscoe also loves entertaining himself by playing with tennis balls or rope toys.
The friendly and affectionate canine, who's been at the shelter since May 7, has never met a person or dog he didn't like. "I think he'd be great with kids," says Hart. "He loves everybody."
He may have a reputation for being dopey, but Roscoe might have some hidden talents that a new owner can nurture. "We went to bring a dog outside to our fenced in yard, and we have several pens, and we put Roscoe in one," says Hart. "He opened the gates and just let himself out to play with other dogs."
If Roscoe is the loveable lug you've been looking for, contact the shelter at (402)362-3964. Founded in 2000, York Adopt-a-Pet's mission is to reunite lost pets with their owners and find loving homes for the area's unwanted cats and dogs.
