"I hated cats when I was growing up because I had dogs, and I really didn't understand cats," she told the L.A. crowd during a press conference Wednesday to launch her latest fragrance, Meow!. "Then, all of a sudden, a cat kind of walked into my life and wouldn't leave, and her name is Kitty Purry."
After some time together, Perry realized she and her feline had more in common than she initially thought.
"I started to have to be a little more patient, I had to really kind of figure her out," she said. "And then I started to notice, 'Oh my God, maybe that's kind of how I am.' You have to take a little patience with me. You have to earn my affection."
Though she's found a kindred spirit in her pet, Perry said the inspiration behind her perfume's name came from a much simpler place: "We always like to here a little kitty go, 'Meow!'"
